Garage Cabinet Styles and Layouts
Garage cabinets are no longer just simple wooden shelves covered in chipped paint and hanging by a rusty nail in a forgotten corner of the garage. Today, garage shelving has evolved into being referred to as "furniture" for the garage by offering a stunning array of options--wall cabinets, standing cabinets, rolling cabinets, pantry-style cabinets, modular cabinets and even cabinets equipped with remote locking mechanisms.

While stainless steel and aluminum are the most popular choices for garage cabinet material, other options that may be more accommodating in certain conditions include sturdy plastic resin, plywood or medium density fiberboard that often have an outer layer made from laminate. However, garage owners need to know that cabinets made from wood and MDF are heavier than other types of cabinets and tend to be susceptible to moisture damage. Standing cabinets should never be made from wood or particle board if the possibility of them being exposed to water or high humidity exists.

Metal garage cabinets offer the benefits of being strong, resistant to wear and tear and able to hold heavy object. Quality aluminum and stainless steel cabinets are always protected with a special powder coating that makes them resistant to rust or corrosion caused by spilled chemicals. Like plastic, metal cabinets are also easy to wipe clean or can be hosed off in the yard using a garden hose for fast clean-ups.

The layout of your garage cabinets depend on several factors--available garage space, what sort of items are going to be stored in your cabinets and the aesthetic aspect of your garage makeover. For a more streamlined appearance, consider attaching wall cabinets all around your garage evenly, with one or two work benches placed strategically underneath the cabinets. For garages primarily used as workshops or for auto repair, rolling cabinets may be preferable to stationary cabinets, especially if rolling cabinets contain heavier equipment.

Garages that are "space hungry" will benefit from nifty looking corner cabinets that resemble the type of corner shelves used in homes. Corners are often overlooked "dead" spaces in garages of which spiders only take advantage. Well, get ahead of the game and fill those corners with beautiful, space-saving cabinets before those spiderwebs can take over!

For a trendy, more modern look, consider modular cabinets that can be attached to special wall mounts and easily moved to other areas on the wall when necessary. Modular garage cabinets are rapidly developing into the most popular kind of cabinets used when homeowners decide to renovate their garage due to their flexibility and convenience when adjusting for the addition of items.
